- ANZAC Day assembly
- Goldfields Athletics
- Parent payments
It was with great pleasure that I was able to present our "Discovering Daylesford State School ANZACs' Book to the RSL President Mr Neil Chamberlain, at our special ANZAC assembly on Tuesday. The school can be very proud of their achievements in compiling this book, which now gives us an amazing insight into the WW1 Honour Board that sits in our front foyer.
Also at our special assembly, Beau Henderson of Grade 2 did a terrific job in reciting "The Ode of Remembrance" and our senior choir sang so beautifully 'Dona Nobis Pacem' a Song of Peace. The ANZAC writing that the grade 5 & 6 students completed was handed over to the RSL President, who will judge the writing. Winners will be announced at a later date.
The Goldfields Athletics team was selected from our House Athletic sports and competed at Llanberris in Ballarat on Thursday. This 60 student strong team is a very good team and we wish them all the best for Thursday. We will have a full report next week. But the High Jump competition that was conducted at school during lunchtimes last week, gave the whole school a look at the students competing and the talent that is in the school. The competitions were very close and the students were trying very hard to perform at their best. I was particularly impressed with support the competitors received from the other students who were watching the competition.
Finally, I would like to remind a number of parents who have outstanding class material and/or KG levies, that this payment is overdue. The school cannot carry the outstanding debt of $28,640 for class materials or the $4090 outstanding in the KG program. Can parents please action on this immediately or ring Deborah Cowen our business manager to arrange a payment plan. Further to this with a number of excursions coming up in the near future eg the Grade 5/6 excursion to Ballarat next week, may I remind parents of the importance of finalising payment before the excursion or your child will not be allowed to attend the excursion.

Farewell to Elvie and Jimmy Hodgson, who are leaving the school and relocating inter-state. Thank you and all the best to the Hodgson Family who have been very active members of our school community.
A BIG thank you to all the parents who assisted at our two fund raisers over the weekend. Due to the efforts of Maia Irell, Edward Benedict, Annette Fisher, Murray Pelham, Jo Steiner, Jayne Bennett, Karyn & Darren McColl, Kathy Douglas, Helene Remus, Claire Clifton, Renee Smith, Christine Good, Maree Phypers and Sarah Hunt, over $2,000 was raised from KG recipe book sales, for the KG program.
The decision to conduct our House Athletics Sports in April instead of August proved to be a good decision, as Monday was a terrific day, whereby grade 3-6 students competed in track & field events, with great spirit and enthusiasm. The overall result is yet to be decided as the HJ completion continues throughout this week at school. The boy and girl champions were decided in a wonderful 100m race. Congratulations to Keylah Walker and Josiah Pattinson. Well done to all the staff, thank you to our parent helpers and good job, Mr K & Sherilee for all their organisation.
The Goldfields Athletics team was announced at assembly and we wished all these students all the best for next week’s competition. Goldfields Athletics event will be conducted in Ballarat on Thursday 28th April.
Two students won their way through to the State Swimming Finals conducted in Melbourne on Tuesday. This is the first time the school has advanced this far in the swimming competition. We are very proud of Sebastian Streat and Lila Paar for reaching this level and wish to congratulate then on their very admirable achievements. Sebastian 4th in both freestyle and backstroke and Lila completed 50m butterfly in 50 seconds, which is amazing effort for a 9 year old who could only swim 50m butterfly 3 months ago!
A reminder that next Monday is a public holiday for ANZAC Day. I would like to invite you to our special ANZAC assembly next Tuesday morning, whereby our publication 'Discovering Daylesford State School's ANZACs', will be handover over to the President of the Daylesford RSL. The school captains have been selling Poppies for the RSL all week.
Due to our special ANZAC assembly next week, we took the opportunity to wish our Goldfields Cross Country team all the best for the Goldfields XC event which is been conducted at the Clunes GC on Wednesday 4th May.
Finally, thank you for your gold coin donation, for the Free Dress Day this Friday, an event organised by the JSC. All money raised goes directly to the Fijian Cyclone Recovery Fund.

Welcome back everyone to what will be an exciting term 2. This term offers many opportunities across the school, in Arts, Sports, classroom learning and a chance for the children to achieve a number of their personal goals.
A number of works were completed over the break, continuing to maintain our school environment. I am sure you would agree the painting looks great. A BIG thank you to Noel Muscat for his work. Also thank you to Barry Phypers for his work around the yard and on our oval.
Congratulations to Tipperary on winning the House XC on the last day of term 1 at Jubilee Lake. It was great to see so many parents supporting the children and I was particularly impressed by the House spirit shown by all the students. Good luck to all the children (top 6) who qualified for the Goldfield XC , which will be held at Clunes on Wednesday 4th May. (refer to age group photos)
We are looking forward to the House Athletics on Monday in Ballarat. Notes came home on Tuesday and should have been returned by Friday. Thank you to the parents listed in the Kitchen Garden Recipe Book Fund Raising Events this coming weekend. Your support to the KG program is much appreciated.
Extra and new yard equipment has been placed in the classrooms for the children to use during recess and lunchtime. Funds raised from the term one raffle have assisted in funding this equipment.
Finally, a reminder to all parents/carers who have yet to settle their school account to finalise this asap. All families received an invoice outlining their account in term 1. If you need to discuss a payment plan please contact our business manager Deborah Cowen.
