Term 2 - week 6

Eltham College Band/Orchestra
On Tuesday we were very fortunate to have the Eltham College Band perform for all students in our hall. Their repertoire was extensive and it showcased the pleasure students' gain from learning an instrument and the value of instrumental performance. Please remember that we too provide opportunities to learn an instrument and perform. If you would like your child to be involved, please see the office staff for further details.

5/6 Daylesford Secondary College Transition Day
Today we have had the vast majority of our 5/6 children involved in the Daylesford Secondary College transition opportunity. They will be involved in a wide range of activities and get a real feel of what secondary life is about. We trust that they enjoyed their day and now the emphasis will be on setting goals in readiness for this important transition for the year 6 students into 2018.

Kathy Watt retirement function
After such a marvellous contribution to education at Daylesford PS (42 years of service), we are thrilled to be hosting a special assembly this coming Tuesday at 9am at the school. Please see more details on page 3. As we celebrate Kathy’s massive contribution to education in the region, we invite all to "frock up and dress smart" for the occasion.

2018 Enrolments
As we are progressing through the term we are receiving many enquiries, hosting tours of the school and enrolling students for 2018. You may like to share with friends that if they intend to enrol their children at Daylesford PS, Drummond PS or Yandoit PS into the future they are most welcome to contact me at the school for further information and tours.

Term 2 - week 5

Yandoit & Drummond Annexe Camp
Over the first three days of this week, our annexe camp was a highlight with 20 children participating at Camp Wilken in Angelsea. I had the pleasure of spending Tuesday with the children. The activities were enjoyed and they certainly were having fun and engaging with their classmates. Well done to all!

Zone Cross Country Championships
Today we had 18 children competing in the zone cross-country championships at Victoria Park in Ballarat. I know that many of these children have been training hard for this event and we wish them all the best. The results will be announced next week.

Education Week
Next week is State Education Week and we will be hosting an "Open morning" from 9am – 11am on Tuesday 23rd May. We look forward to seeing as many parents and community members as possible as we show case our wonderful school.

"Winter" Raffle Fundraiser
A group of Grade 6 parents have organised some terrific prizes for our annual Winter raffle. This has been a very successful fundraiser in the past and I would ask you to please support us by selling the raffle tickets attached to this weeks' newsletter. If you require more tickets, or are available to help sell tickets to the general community near Coles please contact the front office. Any extra help will be greatly appreciated. A portion of the money raised from this raffle goes to the Gr6 celebration night and the balance to technology, therefore all students benefit from the funds raised.

Term 2 - week 4

NAPLAN
As you are no doubt aware, the Australia wide NAPLAN testing program has just concluded. I would like to congratulate the Year 3 and 5 children who participated and tried their very best. From all accounts, the NAPLAN results will be sent to the school very early in Term 3.

Breakfast in the Gym
Once again, we had a very successful Breakfast in the Gym event on Monday. These are hosted twice per term and will be extensively advertised prior to our next opportunity later in the term.

Kathy Watt Retirement Function
Kathy Watt has been a teacher at Daylesford Primary School for over 42 years and we would like to congratulate and celebrate Kathy's teaching career at an assembly later this term. The date will be confirmed shortly. Kathy's career has been a remarkable journey of support, love and care for many families throughout Daylesford and beyond. Please watch out for an upcoming open invitation to be included in next week's newsletter. We invite all Kathy’s past students, friends and family to what will be an amazing recognition of Kathy’s career at Daylesford Primary School.

Annexe Camp
Finally, I would like to wish both or our annexes, Yandoit and Drummond Primary Schools, a successful camp at Camp Wilken from Monday to Wednesday this coming week.

Enjoy your weekend

Term 2 - week 3

School Camps
Even though the weather was a little challenging last week, we had our Year 3/4 children at Cave Hill Creek and year 5/6 children at Camp Norval, Halls Gap. From all accounts, the children actively involved themselves in the camp experiences. Certainly, the Year 5/6 children have discussed with me their enjoyment of the challenging abseiling experience and likewise the Year 3/4 children seemed to enjoy their archery, hut building and bush cooking. Well done to the participants and a huge thank you to the staff and volunteers for their efforts last week. Our volunteers associated with all the variety of experiences at Daylesford, Drummond & Yandoit Primary schools are outstanding!

NAPLAN
All year 3 and 5 children should have taken home a flyer outlining information about the annual NAPLAN testing program involving all Australian schools. The testing begins with both Year 3 & 5 involved in Language Conventions and Writing assessment on Tuesday 9th May, Reading on Wednesday 10th May and Numeracy on Thursday 11th May. This national assessment program allows schools, parents and students to be further informed as to their progress in all assessment areas. Best wishes to our Year 3 & 5 students who are participating in the program.

Breakfast in the Gym
A reminder that a free nutritious breakfast will be available on Monday morning from 8.15am. We hope to see many children there!

Pupil Free Day
School Council has approved our second of four proposed pupil free days on Friday 9th June. This date coincides with the Queen's birthday public holiday on Monday 12th June. This ultimately means that children and families will have a four-day weekend. The aim is to make this pupil free day less disruptive for families. During the pupil free day, all staff will be participating in both data analysis professional development and report writing.
